2020 Crew Leadership Program

(June 9, 2020) Under guidance from federal, state, and local authorities, NEPPA is pleased to be gradually reopening its Headquarters/Training Center beginning June 15, 2020.

 

All visitors, staff and trainers are expected to follow the established practices and protocols to ensure the safety, health and well being of the NEPPA community.

 

In-house and @Your-Site Training is being held and scheduled in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines.

 

  

NEPPA's is pleased to introduce and offer a completely reviewed and revitalized Crew Leadership Program.  NEPPA’s Crew Leadership Program is designed to build upon their existing leadership skills to work more effectively and efficiently in the field, while meeting standards and regulatory requirements.

 

In addition to in-class lecture, the Crew Leadership Program includes a final exam to demonstrate knowledge and comprehension of the course content.

 

Upon successful completion of the Program, students are awarded a Certificate of Completion.

Who Should Attend

  • Current or aspiring crew leaders
  • Lineworkers or operations employees
  • Employees or Supervisors transitioning from other departments
  • Construction Supervisors
  • Project Managers

Learning Objectives

 

Upon completion of this two-day program, participants will be able to successfully:

    1. Practice tactics and strategies to transition from an employee to a leader
    2. Apply concepts on how to develop a leadership mindset
    3. Demonstrate knowledge of regulatory requirements and liabilities
    4. Explain the importance of both crew and public safety, and apply best practices to ensure safety
    5. Identify and apply standards and specifications required as a Crew Leader
    6. Transition beyond supervision to responsibility and reporting accountability
    7. Practice management of emergent situations that require mutual aid assistance and coordination

Course Prerequisites 

 

The Crew Leadership Program is designed to build upon learning concepts in the Apprentice Lineworker and Advanced Lineworker Programs. 

 

The ideal participant has at least 3 - 5 years experience working in the field.

Registration fees include coffee and lunch each day.  If you have any dietary restrictions or considerations, please make note on your registration.

Cancellations

 

Cancellations are accepted until Wednesday, September 30, 2020.  Substitutions may be made at any time prior to the start of the first session.

Additional instructors and guest speakers may also participate and provide instruction.

 

Steve Socoby, Director of Technical Training

Steve has 36 years of hands-on experience in all facets of operations of public power utilities including: Line Superintendent; supervision of crews, maintenance, new construction, reliability and associated plant & substation responsibilities. He is a recognized expert in safety and OSHA compliance.

 

In his role of Director of Technical Training, he oversees NEPPA's lineworker program and teaches utility management and supervision, electronic controls and power-line operation programs.

 

Recognized as an industry leader and expert Steve has received the Distinguished Service Award from the Northeast Public Power Association and been recognized by the Maine State Legislature for his previous 30 Years of Distinguished Service. Steve attended the University of Maine at Orono.
