Supervisory Skills Program

The Supervisory Skills Program has three sessions which include responsibilities of a supervisor, bringing out the best in your staff and developing leadership skills.  The Program will be held on three consecutive Mondays from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm at NEPPA Headquarters (200 New Estate Road, Littleton, MA 01460).

Students will learn

  • Four main duties of a supervisor
  • Techniques for delegating and giving instruction
  • Uses and methods of coaching and motivating employees
  • Conducting effective performance appraisals
  • Structured methodology for solving performance problems

Dr. Robert J. Awkward serves as a visiting associate professor and program coordinator and advisor for the Masters in Human Resources program at Framingham State University. In this role, he teaches Foundations of Human Resource Management; Business Ethics; International Human Resource Management; and Seminar in Human Resource Management, the capstone course for the program. Robert is also a tenured professor of business administration (currently on leave) at Middlesex Community College.


Robert currently directs a state-wide learning outcomes assessment program at the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education. The mission of the learning outcomes assessment program is to advance and deepen the culture of assessment throughout public higher education in Massachusetts and increase student learning outcomes in critical thinking, written communications, and quantitative reasoning, all essential learning outcomes to meet the needs of the labor market and for citizenship.


Prior to his roles in higher education, Robert enjoyed progressive, diverse and successful human resources management and consulting experiences in varied industries including retail, manufacturing, high technology, professional services, healthcare and non-profits.


Finally, Bob was graduated with B.A. in Political Science and a M.S. in Economic Policy & Planning from Northeastern University; a M.Ed. in Human Resources Development from Boston University; and a Ph.D. in Higher Education from the University of Massachusetts Boston.
